Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 34Dear Reader, On the heels of my 44th birthday, I am thankful for my health, family, friends, and large hats. π To celebrate, I'm having another review giveaway from now until September 30! Only 5 people have entered so far for a chance to win 2 $50 Amazon gift cards! On the podcast...Have you ever heard of The Four Tenβdencies personality framework from Gretchen Rubin? Each tendency differs in their response to internal and external expectations, and can tell us a lot about how we can approach decluttering and organizing differently.β βοΈ Upholders respond readily to outer and inner expectations. They thrive within routines and love to-do lists and schedules. Their best bet is to time block their decluttering tasks and pick a weekly donation pickup/drop-off time. βοΈ Questioners question ALL expectations. Theyβll meet an expectation if they think it is logical to them. Since questioners always want to know WHY, it's helpful if they constantly remind themselves of why they are seeking a clutter-free life. βοΈ Obligers (like me!) respond readily to outer expectations, but may struggle with inner expectations. Outer accountability is key, which is why our Facebook community is great for obligers. A new decluttering challenge starts on Monday! βοΈ Rebels resist all expectations, outer and inner alike. For rebels, it's helpful to go back to your identity and how a clutter-free life helps you (be a more patient mom, more loving spouse, etc.) Not sure which one you are? Take the quiz to find out!
I also had the pleasure of speaking to Kelly Briggs from Simple Home Mom in Episode 156 about how to create chore systems as a neurodivergent mom (or one with neurodivergent kids!) We talk about loop planning, Plan B chores, working with your brain, and much more!
One more thing...βColor Guru is having a sale until tonight at 9 PM EST. If you want to reduce decision fatigue by getting your color analysis and know what colors look best on you for clothing, makeup, etc. now is a great time! If you purchase an Essential package ($16.90 off with the code OVERWHELM at checkout) you get a free makeup card ($40 value). I love my color card and makeup card and use them often. On the journey with you, Emily P.S. Skipped to the end? No problem! On Tuesday I shared how your tendency can impact your decluttering and organizing approach. On Thursday I chatted with Kelly Briggs about chore systems for neurodivergent moms (and kids)! β *Note: affiliate links may be included, which means I get a small commission if you use my link - thanks! |

Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, Not long ago, I found myself frustrated as I pulled weeds in our front yard. My frustration stemmed from two places: 1. I detest all yard work. I have the opposite of a green thumb (black thumb??) and while I can tidy a room with ease, I am exhausted by the thought of pulling weeds or trimming hedges. 2. I thought my husband would take care of the yard, and I was annoyed that I had to do it. π Pat and I have a pretty good division of labor when it...
Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, My youngest son Sean is one of those kids who is always asking, "WHY"? In fact, when he was younger we got him a shirt that said "Why? Why? Why?" because he asked it so much. Oftentimes, I have to bite my tongue from saying the phrase I promised I'd never say as a parent: A phrase repeated by parents for generations...Because I said so! I always figured that Sean's repeated questioning when asked to do something reflected disrespect. Why couldn't he...
Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, It's almost October, which means that a special season is upon us. No, not Halloween (although my kids LOVE it and we have a skeleton hanging in our basement full-time!) No, not Christmas (please send the message to Costco that it's NOT EVEN OCTOBER YET!) It's...planner season! π₯³ For those of you who get excited about shiny new paper planners, it's about the time to start doing your research for your "perfect pick" for 2026. But if you're realizing...
