Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, or Rebel? πŸ€”

Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 34

Dear Reader,

On the heels of my 44th birthday, I am thankful for my health, family, friends, and large hats. πŸ‘’

To celebrate, I'm having another review giveaway from now until September 30! Only 5 people have entered so far for a chance to win 2 $50 Amazon gift cards!

On the podcast...

Have you ever heard of The Four Tendencies personality framework from Gretchen Rubin? Each tendency differs in their response to internal and external expectations, and can tell us a lot about how we can approach decluttering and organizing differently.

β˜‘οΈ Upholders respond readily to outer and inner expectations. They thrive within routines and love to-do lists and schedules. Their best bet is to time block their decluttering tasks and pick a weekly donation pickup/drop-off time.

β˜‘οΈ Questioners question ALL expectations. They’ll meet an expectation if they think it is logical to them. Since questioners always want to know WHY, it's helpful if they constantly remind themselves of why they are seeking a clutter-free life.

β˜‘οΈ Obligers (like me!) respond readily to outer expectations, but may struggle with inner expectations. Outer accountability is key, which is why our Facebook community is great for obligers. A new decluttering challenge starts on Monday!

β˜‘οΈ Rebels resist all expectations, outer and inner alike. For rebels, it's helpful to go back to your identity and how a clutter-free life helps you (be a more patient mom, more loving spouse, etc.)

Not sure which one you are? Take the quiz to find out!

I also had the pleasure of speaking to Kelly Briggs from Simple Home Mom in Episode 156 about how to create chore systems as a neurodivergent mom (or one with neurodivergent kids!)

We talk about loop planning, Plan B chores, working with your brain, and much more!

One more thing...

Color Guru is having a sale until tonight at 9 PM EST. If you want to reduce decision fatigue by getting your color analysis and know what colors look best on you for clothing, makeup, etc. now is a great time!

If you purchase an Essential package ($16.90 off with the code OVERWHELM at checkout) you get a free makeup card ($40 value). I love my color card and makeup card and use them often.

On the journey with you,

Emily

P.S. Skipped to the end? No problem! On Tuesday I shared how your tendency can impact your decluttering and organizing approach. On Thursday I chatted with Kelly Briggs about chore systems for neurodivergent moms (and kids)!

Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 41 Dear Reader, We are almost done with November, and it's been hard not to feel like I'm snowballing to the end of 2024 surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Can you relate? The end of 2024 feels like... The remedy? Remember the NO in November! That means that instead of looking at what everyone else is doing on social media and feeling like I'm not doing enough, I follow my friend Stephanie O'Dea's advice and Simply Look...

Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 30 Dear Reader, We're used to writing mile-long to-do lists, but have you ever written a "yes" list? A "yes" list is a list of everything you have said "yes" to. Those could range from commitments and obligations to simple things like....keeping small humans alive. 🀣 In yesterday's episode, I speak to my friend Jessica Jackson from the Thriving in Motherhood Podcast about how to write out your "yes" list and evaluate it so you can truly...

Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 23 Dear Reader, I have always struggled with procrastination. I distinctly remember researching and writing two 10-page college papers due the next day by pulling an all-nighter. (I think I ended up getting an A- on one and a B+ on another, which I'm proud of in a strange way πŸ˜‚). Even now as a mom and business owner, I find it hard to focus and do what I would rather put off - like decluttering, meal planning, editing podcast episodes, and...
