Disney Taught Me THIS About What Matters

Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 3

Dear Reader,

We just got back today from Disney World (which is why this is a day late!) I hadn't been since I was a teenager, and I learned a few things...

  1. If you're prone to motion sickness like I am, don't go on any rides right after a "All You Can Enjoy" buffet lunch. 🤢
  2. People of all ages are serious about Disney. Like REALLY serious. It's amazing to see their dedication!
  3. It is possible...but very difficult...to go to Disney and not spend a lot of money 💰💰- especially with a gift shop after every ride and two kids who love to ask for stuff!

It was hard to say no to the hundreds- perhaps thousands (?) of souvenirs we saw at every turn. The grandparents bought the boys binoculars and they were content using them throughout the parks (oftentimes when they were walking! :))

But I kept asking myself these questions throughout our days...

1. Do I want to be an intentional shopper or a mindless consumer?

2. Am I comparing myself to other moms here (with matching T-shirts and all the Disney swag) with a scarcity mindset, instead of an abundance mindset where I know I have enough and am enough?

3. If I purchase a bunch of stuff for our kids, where will it fit in our suitcases? Where will it live in my home?

Disney - or any travel destination - is magical because of memories made, not because of how quickly you get through the lines or the souvenirs you buy. And the smiles on the faces of these boys made the week so special.

Now I'm back to work - trying to be as productive as possible, and gearing up for a new decluttering challenge in the free Facebook group on Monday! Hope you can join us!

Before You Go...

On this journey with you,

P.S. Scrolled to the end? No problem. This week on the podcast I shared the 5 mindset shifts to help you let go of clutter, and Michelle Byrd shared her 5 Productivity Hacks to Help You Stay on Top of Your Day.

Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, Not long ago, I found myself frustrated as I pulled weeds in our front yard. My frustration stemmed from two places: 1. I detest all yard work. I have the opposite of a green thumb (black thumb??) and while I can tidy a room with ease, I am exhausted by the thought of pulling weeds or trimming hedges. 2. I thought my husband would take care of the yard, and I was annoyed that I had to do it. 😂 Pat and I have a pretty good division of labor when it...

Because I said so...that's why.

Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, My youngest son Sean is one of those kids who is always asking, "WHY"? In fact, when he was younger we got him a shirt that said "Why? Why? Why?" because he asked it so much. Oftentimes, I have to bite my tongue from saying the phrase I promised I'd never say as a parent: A phrase repeated by parents for generations...Because I said so! I always figured that Sean's repeated questioning when asked to do something reflected disrespect. Why couldn't he...

Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, It's almost October, which means that a special season is upon us. No, not Halloween (although my kids LOVE it and we have a skeleton hanging in our basement full-time!) No, not Christmas (please send the message to Costco that it's NOT EVEN OCTOBER YET!) It's...planner season! 🥳 For those of you who get excited about shiny new paper planners, it's about the time to start doing your research for your "perfect pick" for 2026. But if you're realizing...
