Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 48Dear Reader, One minute, your kids are enjoying the new-fallen snow on a sled. The next minute, this. Between Andrew's broken arm and 4 snow days in a row, I've never been more grateful that my house is decluttered and the basic systems I swear by (laundry, dishes, etc.) stayed in place. If you want to kick your clutter to the curb in 2025 - despite what else comes your way - I'm here to help! Let's work together virtually or in-person to start the year off right. On the PodcastYesterday I shared my TRANSFORM system for decluttering your home. This is the exact method I use with my clients! Let's dive in: Trash - once you pick the room/area of your home where you want to start, do a sweep and grab all obvious trash. Relocation bins - inevitably you'll find things that don't belong in the space you're in. Grab a few bins, collect the items by floor/room but wait until you're done in that area before you put anything back. Otherwise you'll get distracted. Anything easy to declutter - this is the "low-hanging fruit" of decluttering - things you know you want to donate. Clothing or shoes your kids have grown out of, books you no longer read, anything you know would bless others and you don't have an emotional attachment to. Put them in bags with the recipient's name on it and then put it in your car. Name what matters in this season - now that the easy decisions are done, ask yourself what your vision is for the space you're tackling. How do you want it to feel, function, and flow? What activities do you want to do there, and how can you prioritize decluttering based upon those priorities? Fill your designated boundary starting with "loves" and "likes" - pick a boundary such as a shelf, drawer, container, bin, etc. and start filling with what you use and love the most, and then what you like. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind bins for "maybes" - if you get to anything you're not sure about and aren't willing to let go of (yet) then use the famous out-of-sight, out-of-mind bin. Just make sure you set a deadline on your phone to review it! Reflect on what no longer serves you and release the excess - now you're getting to the "tough stuff" where we have to ask ourselves some important questions to know why we're holding on. Once we break through these mindset blocks, it's easier to let go! Maintain the space with tidying habits - now that you have a decluttered space, use daily or weekly tidying habits to keep it maintained! Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 54 Dear Reader, Most of us grew up with this mantra about rest planted firmly in our heads:💀 I'll rest when I'm dead. 💀 Or perhaps you see rest as a reward when EVERYTHING is done...except here's the thing - it's never all done. 😂Seeing rest as a right, rather than a reward, is REVOLUTIONARY. (And getting the letter "r" in a sentence that many times is really remarkable 😜). But how do we prioritize rest in a hustle-driven culture? On the...
Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 52 Dear Reader, When my kids want to hold onto EVERYTHING that comes through the front door, I have to remember that it's normal to be attached to stuff. In fact, there are several cognitive biases that cause adults to hold on, so why should we expect our kids (whose brains don't fully develop until their mid-20's) to let go of their stuff willingly? On the Podcast This week on the podcast, I shared some helpful tips about how to help your...
Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 50 Dear Reader, When my boys learned they actually had a FULL day of school yesterday (instead of a snow day or 2-hour delay), this was their response: Meanwhile, my mom friends and I were: Slow clap from the moms (and dads)! On the Podcast One of the benefits of the kids being back in school is that they aren't leaving their stuff (what my organizer friend Lisa Lizotte lovingly calls "droppings") all over the house. This week's podcast...
