Less Time Cleaning and Tidying? Yes, Please!

Decluttering Tips and Support Weekly Newsletter Vol. 7

Dear Reader,

Have you ever felt like you're playing "Whack-a-Mole" with your kids' stuff?

They play with their toys, stand up, and right as the words, "Hey, are you going to clean that up?" escape your lips, they're already making another mess?

If you're always cleaning up after your kids, you may be making these three mistakes:

1. You don’t have a system around your (or their) stuff. We have to model what is acceptable in our home. Set house rules for what goes where and when, and model them.

2. They are exceeding their capacity (and so are you!) - Capacity is not how much stuff they can fit in your home. It’s how much they can easily manage without leaving messes everywhere.

3. You clean up after them because it’s easier and because you’re so overwhelmed by your own clutter. Get your own clutter under control, then you’ll have the capacity to help them manage theirs and won’t be cleaning up after them.

Perhaps like me, you're trying to teach your kids some healthy habits around cleaning up, tidying, rest times, and snack/mealtimes. When you have less stuff in your environment, it becomes easier to have the bandwidth to introduce new habits and routines in your home.

What new routines are you looking to implement in your home? Reply and let me know!
