Decluttering Tips and SupportDear Reader, My youngest son Sean is one of those kids who is always asking, "WHY"? In fact, when he was younger we got him a shirt that said "Why? Why? Why?" because he asked it so much. I always figured that Sean's repeated questioning when asked to do something reflected disrespect. Why couldn't he just do it the FIRST TIME I ASKED?? (Can you sense my frustration?) 😂 But my guest this week helped me reframe Sean's behavior by asking myself a simple question: Upon reflection, I realized that asking "Why?" reflects Sean's value of curiosity, something that I support as an individual and family value. On the PodcastWhat if the key to calmer days and more connection at home isn’t a new routine - but your family’s values? In this week's episode, I’m joined by certified parenting coach Adriane Thompson from Raising Kids with Purpose, who helps parents understand the why behind their child’s behavior. Adriane shares how defining your family values can anchor you in moments of overwhelm and chaos, plus practical steps to make those values part of your daily life. Whether you’re navigating meltdowns, busy schedules, or just trying to feel more intentional at home, this conversation will help you reconnect with what truly matters in your family culture. Some of the highlights from the episode include: 🌿 Why defining and living your family values matters: Family values act as anchor points during disruption, dysregulation, or chaos. They are your “home base” - a compass for your family decisions. Spoiler alert: You might already be living your values - even if you haven’t written them down yet! 🌿 How to define your family values: Make it fun! Host a family meeting over pizza or game night. Ask questions like: What qualities do we admire in other families? How do we want everyone to feel at home? How do we spend our time together and apart? What do we say all the time (like “get your shoes on!”) that reflects a deeper value (like respect for others’ time)? Ensure everyone - kids included - feels heard, seen, and understood. 🌿 How to make family values part of your everyday life: Keep them visible - post them where everyone can see. Adriane's free Family Values and Goal-Setting Toolkit includes a poster that you can print out and customize for your needs! Consider creating rituals like a fun handshake, a song, or a family phrase. Reflect each evening with your kids before bed by asking, “How did we live out our family values today?” To learn more from Adriane, check out our full conversation on your favorite podcast app or watch on YouTube! Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, As my two boys have grown, they have started taking my statements and requests as, shall we say, gateways for negotiation. If I tell them they can watch one show, they ask if they can watch two. If I tell them they can have three pieces of candy, they ask if they can have four. If I ask them to be home for dinner by 5:30, they ask if they can play until 6. It's constant. And exhausting. It's hard to hold boundaries when they just won't quit! If...
Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, For those of you who are following along with our moving journey, we are breathing a bit easier this week with a signed contract on our house. We also have a bid in on a house in Pennsylvania and are anxiously waiting to hear back! A while back, I wrote a blog post about my ten non-negotiable habits that has done well for itself in the land of Google search. :) My habits have mostly stayed the same with a few updates I'd love to share with you....
Decluttering Tips and Support Dear Reader, We are officially moving from Virginia to Pennsylvania this summer, and I have NEVER been more grateful for my clutter-free home. In order to get house "listing-ready" we've had to clear surfaces, relocate furniture, and maximize the space to entice potential buyers. Watch out! Don't open that closet! Since we don't have a garage, any excess stuff has been moved to part of our basement. As I moved Lego sets, bean bag chairs, bookshelves, and end...
